When the Universe Speaks with Synchronicities
When we think of signs from the universe, we usually picture the obvious ones—like finding a white feather on the ground, seeing a butterfly flutter past, or spotting a black cat and wondering if it’s bad luck. But the truth is, signs don’t always show up in such neat little packages. More often, they come as synchronicities. Those strange coincidences that feel a little too spot-on to ignore.
Synchronicities are one of the main ways the universe speaks to us. They’re those little moments that feel like coincidences on the surface, but deep down, you know they’re anything but random. It might be thinking of a phrase and then hearing it repeated on the radio, or seeing the same number pop up everywhere you look. Some people call them “cosmic winks”—little nudges to let you know you’re on the right track, or that something important is unfolding.
Often, these synchronicities show up as repeating experiences—like a certain song that won’t stop playing, a TV show that keeps appearing, or a phrase that jumps out at you over and over again. They’re not always there to warn us of something bad; sometimes they’re simply saying, pay attention, there’s more to this than meets the eye. These moments can become doorways into your own intuition, helping you to tune in and understand what your soul already knows.
When TV or Radio Becomes a Spiritual Compass
One of the strongest ways the universe has ever sent me signs was through the television. It sounds a little funny at first, but it’s true. During my pregnancy with my first baby, a show called Touched by an Angel kept coming on. If you remember that show, it was all about angels stepping into people’s lives during their hardest moments of loss or struggle. At the time, I didn’t think too much of it—I just found myself drawn to it. I loved watching it, even though it felt a little out of the blue. Looking back, I can see it was the universe preparing me. When I went through my third trimester pregnancy loss, the message of that show gave me comfort, almost like a gentle reminder that I wouldn’t be alone, that angels—whether seen or unseen—would be with me. And in a way, they were. My friends became those angels when I needed them most.
Another time, it happened again but in a very different way. For weeks, Mad Men kept showing up on the TV. It’s a show that really didn’t sit right with me—the cheating, the lies, the way the women were treated—it all made me so uncomfortable. But I couldn’t seem to escape it. And then, not long after, I found out the painful truth that my partner at the time had been unfaithful, just like the main character in the show. It hit me like a ton of bricks, but at the same time, it was like a lightbulb moment: the universe had been trying to prepare me for what I was about to walk through.
These experiences weren’t just coincidences. They were synchronicities—moments where the outside world reflected exactly what was going on inside of me, even before I consciously knew it. The signs came through something as ordinary as the TV, but the message behind them was anything but ordinary.
When Dreams and Words Speak Louder Than We Realise
Signs don’t only come through shows or songs—they can come through our dreams, magazines, or even random words that jump out at us at just the right time. I’ll never forget sitting on a flight to Melbourne, looking out the window, and asking God for a sign. I had this heavy feeling that something was coming, though I couldn’t explain what. The magazine slipped out of my hands and landed on a random page. Big and bold across the top it read: “Pregnant and Alone.”
At the time, I didn’t want to believe it. I brushed it off, but it stuck with me. A week later, when everything came crashing down and I truly was pregnant and alone, I remembered that moment so clearly. It wasn’t there to scare me—it was there to prepare me. And that’s the thing: sometimes the signs don’t come to warn us of disaster, but to soften the blow, to help us land a little more gently when life shakes us.
Shared Stories, Shared Truths
I’ve also noticed that when I talk to other people about signs, their stories line up with mine in the most beautiful ways. A friend once told me they asked for a very specific sign, and within minutes, it showed up in the most unexpected form. Others share how they’ll think of something random, like a green car, and suddenly it’s all they see everywhere. These stories remind me that we’re not imagining it—these signs are real, and they often show up in ways that make us stop in our tracks.
The Skeptical Side
Of course, there’s always a more logical explanation. Psychologists sometimes call it “pattern seeking”—our brains are wired to connect the dots, even when there’s no real connection. And maybe that’s true, at least some of the time. But I’ve learned that even if it is just my brain noticing patterns, the meaning it creates for me is still powerful. Whether it’s spiritual or psychological, the effect is the same: it gives me strength, comfort, and clarity when I need it most.
My Message for Today
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is this: don’t go out hunting for signs. You don’t have to force them or chase them down. The right signs will always find you when you need them most.
And today—being the 9th of September, I feel that even more deeply. The number 9 is about endings, but also about new beginnings. It’s a clearing out of what no longer serves us so that new energy can flow in. So if you’ve been feeling like something is shifting in your life right now, take this as your sign. The universe may be preparing you for what’s next, gently guiding you into a new chapter with a little more grace and a little more trust.
